  2. Hello. There is a 87 4x4 d21 that is very clean I have a line on. The engine has been removed as the owner has blown a few head gaskets and lost interest. ( My guess is improper torque check interval as it's a 2.4 but I could be wrong. The engine is pulled . What would a fair price be on it? The 8000 he is asking seems a bit high even though it has quite a bit of new parts and is in good shape. Also, I've read about copper head gaskets and was wondering if they are a better route to go on the 2.4 ? If anyone has any experience. Please let me know. Thanks
  3. Well I got everything cleaned , put back together and my son helped me bleed the brake lines. I just need to get some brake adjuster return springs and should be good to go. The torch method worked great for the fluid on the shoes by the way. Thanks
  4. Popping the pistons back in the cylinder shouldn't cause them to leak correct? They are brand new cylinders.
  5. Well. It happened again. To the other side with the brake drums on this time. Looks like I needed to use the bottom adjusters to back out to put more pressure on the pistons. More torch and more cleaning. Oh well . At least I'll get some practicing in.
  6. I put a torch to them this morning and the oil all burnt off. Seem to be just fine.thankfully. Thanks for the tip. I took the cylinder apart cleaned them up and popped the pistons back in. They seem to be fine .

  8. Much appreciated . I will try the propane torch to dry them off as well. On another note, I'm using a vaccum hand pump to bleed the brakes and they sure can be finicky.

  10. So I am in the midst of replacing cylinders and shoes and stupid me pumped the brakes without the drums on and one of the pistons in the brake cylinder popped out and was leaking fluid. The New shoes got a bit of brake fluid on them. Are they toast ? Salvageable? Stupid mistakes. Oh well live a learn. They are on a Suzuki sj410 so hopefully not toast as I had to get them from Australia
  11. Damn okay. Hopefully I can still source components for the brakes. It is definitely a project that will take me a while but I would love to get it road worthy and on the road some day. I will look in to aftermarket parts. I ha e an 83 Suzuki sj410 and have had to get a few aftermarket parts and have the rear drums turned as they are hard to find for that year. Where there is a will there's a way I suppose. And if things were easy then everyone would do them.
  12. My mistake. It is a 5 speed. I was thinking of on old Suzuki I've got. It looks like a good portion of these parts will be useable which is great. Are the 2.2 and 2.4 engine parts interchangeable? A few head gaskets I found in the part say 2.2 and 2.4.
  13. I'm assuming the transmissions are different as the 1 ton has a 4 speed I believe
  14. Much appreciated info. I figured the dually axle , rims and brake were different. Hopefully it's not too hard to get parts for the brakes. The frames leaf spring packs and steering components all look the same. I got the truck and a ton of brand new in box parts. I'm going to pick up a second 86 720 with 2.4 engine and more parts tomorrow. Not bad for 800 bucks. The brand new hancook tires and battery probably cost that alone. . The owner was a really nice guy and when we heard I was fixing up the 1 ton offered me the second truck and parts . I'm quite happy. My wife no to much.
