  1. Time for a sad bump.... http://community.ratsun.net/classifieds/item/5991-datsun-620/
  2. I would agree with this. On the first side that was replaced a total of 3 clips were broken. None on the second side (lessons were learned). Also, like you said the position of each clip had to be moved to fit the door prior to trimming the excess rubber.
  3. Thanks for the link! I actually got the seals for Christmas - but they came from: http://www.datsunlandsocal.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=DS&Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=PL620WeatherSeals I was pretty impressed with the quality/fit and finish.
  4. Total fail for no pictures..but here it goes: removed and replaced outer window squeegees removed and replaced door seals replaced broken antenna replaced drivers side door open mechanism A couple of questions. In a previous comment it was suggested that using POR15 with fiberglass was not a good option for small holes that are in the floorboards - is there another option short of floorboard replacement? I have been trying to find a place where I can order a heater control valve and heater hoses - has anyone ordered these recently?
  5. Hmm, I don't recall off the top of my head (and the truck isn't near me at the moment). I will say that I still feel basically every bump in the road and hear everything because there is no insulation in the cab. :-)
  6. I had originally thought of that. The only thing is my floor pans aren't completely rusted out. They in fact are pretty solid. There is pitting with some of those pits becoming VERY small holes. Almost like the tip of a ball point pen. Cutting out the floor pans to handle that just seemed really extreme. I don't have a better picture to show the little holes....but I think you can see how solid the pans are here below. Note that if you look closely you can see some of the indents: Would you have another suggestion? Oh, and here is Isabel and Rocky together in the truck (I really miss Rocky).
  7. Sort of. It turned out to be the slave cylinder...super quick to fix. Spent time driving it around and just enjoying it! I got busy over the past few months. Many deaths in the family (2 uncles, 1 aunt and our other dog (not pictured above)), I got married and just got a new job. So my plate has been pretty full. My current plan is to get the cab completely sealed up (new door seals, por15/fiberglass the floorboards etc). After that I want to fix a little bit of rust under the battery and look at putting a rebuilt motor in it. On a side note....what the hell did photobucket do to there website? It is horrible now! I can't seem to move a picture from the mobile upload to the Datsun album I have. I wanted to post a picture of Isabel (the bulldog above) and Rocky (our 17 year old dog who just passed away) riding in the Datsun. I guess I will need to move all my stuff over to flickr or something. Anywho - thanks for checking in!
  8. Or just buy a mazda repu... Don't get me wrong would be fun! (oh...and it has been done: )
  9. Haha...so true. I have been threatening to rattle-can it a different color (thinking bright blue or white). Finding a place to do it has been difficult. I am also lazy and don't want to scuff the car, prime it and rattle can it. Complete change of subject - My Dad looked at my truck the day the cop was giving me a hard time and said I need to lower the rear more - got I love that man.
  10. I actually used that argument to not get the ticket. The officer informed me that I needed a rear bumper - I informed the officer that he was wrong (I have work on doing that more nicely next time) and that the RCW said if it was installed from the factory I needed it - since these weren't I didn't. I also added that 620s with bumpers were either dealer installed options or owner additions. What a pain having to tell a cop that I am in-fact following the law. EDIT: Good to know about the "custom vehicle" inspection. Definitely not worth the headache.
  11. Sorry for the bump on a necro-thread here...but I was hoping for some further clarification (can you tell what happened to me this weekend? ;-) ). Being a WA resident - does anyone have documentation that shows bumpers were not factory installed? This was also posted earlier - http://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=204-10-022 ... "(6) Bumpers: A motor vehicle must be equipped with a bumper on both the front and rear of the vehicle with the exception of motor vehicles where the original or predominant body configuration, provided by a recognized manufacturer, did not include such bumper or bumpers in the design of the vehicle. For the relevant model year, bumpers must accommodate recognized manufacturer impact absorption systems pursuant to applicable SAE Bumper Standards or equivalent standards. Bumpers are optional equipment on vehicles defined as street rod vehicles, custom vehicles and kit vehicles. Bumpers, unless specifically exempted above, must: (a) Be at least four and one-half inches in vertical height. ( B) Be centered on the vehicle's centerline. © Extend no less than the width of the respective wheel track distances. (d) Be attached to the vehicle in a manner equivalent to the original manufacturer's installation. (e) Be horizontal load bearing and attach to the vehicle frame to effectively transfer energy when impacted. "... Not a lawyer here - but that seems to imply that if the factory didn't design one for it - it isn't necessary. Which seems to make sense with the 620 because on the vintage advertisements I have seen (from the dealer) they don't have bumpers in the rear. This might be a moot point because there are exemptions for "custom vehicles". According to this link: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.04.161 ""Custom vehicle" means any motor vehicle that: (1) Is at least thirty years old and of a model year after 1948 or was manufactured to resemble a vehicle at least thirty years old and of a model year after 1948; and (2) Has alterations to one or more of the major component parts listed in RCW 46.80.010 that change the appearance or performance of the vehicle from the original manufacturer's design or has a body constructed from nonoriginal materials." So in the case of my 1977 Datsun, it is over 30 years old and I have altered the vehicle in both performance (Custom upper control arms, ball joints (instead of king-pins) and front disk brakes - and design from the original manufacturer (lowering). So I wonder if this allows me to call this a custom vehicle? Wish I was a lawyer....(never thought I would say that). EDIT: I should add to that at least here in WA you can't just weld a piece of steel and call it a bumper - there were also a lot of rules around what a "bumper is". Just an FYI.
  12. Man..this is why I love this forum! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question. Just trying to get an idea on waht to look for if/when I want to replace my harness.
  13. I have searched (maybe with the incorrect terms) but have been unable to find out if there is a difference between the automatic and manual wiring harnesses. Further - are there any major differences between model years wiring harnesses? For instance, the difference between a 77 and 79.
  14. It has been awhile since I have updated this thread. Mainly I have just been using/driving the truck and enjoying it! Here is a picture of it working (i.e. have a truck and you help people move!): I have noticed for a little bit that the transmission drain plug has been leaking. I was putting it off because it was only a drip here and there. I was doing some work over in Poulsbo and needed to run to home depot. The Datsun had enough.... I couldn't get it into gear with the engine running, and while running it would stall out while in gear. I haven't had a chance to look at it in detail yet - but my money is on the clutch slave cylinder. So I guess I will be getting to the leaking transmission drain plug sooner rather than later.
  15. My truck has a twin (http://community.ratsun.net/topic/44687-back-to-the-future-datsun-620/)! I wanted to see how my truck would look with that air dam....can't wait to see the new wheels/tires on the truck! Looks awesome!
