It's been mostly the same (visually) since then, other than the addition to a NISMO steel bumper and a much better front suspension. _8002699-HDR.jpg by Matt Yates, on Flickr DSC00400.jpg by Matt Yates, on Flickr DSC01932.jpg by Matt Yates, on Flickr DSC02442.jpg by Matt Yates, on Flickr DSC02438.jpg by Matt Yates, on Flickr3 points

I don't see Ratsun as dead. I see it as different. Maybe slower now, but it's still better than the alternate....FB. I've been around since 2010, which was a hell of a long time ago now. I agree with the other observations that the heyday most certainly was around 2010-2013 before it started to fade a bit. People got busy, grew up, sold cars, bought cars, passed away (RIP Pumpkin) etc. Around 2015, I started a new job that kept me busier than ever. Ironically, it brought me closer to Datsuns and a different part of the community in my personal life, meeting people like Peter Brock, Toshio Yamashita, Matsuo-san, and John Morton. I sold my 240Z back in 2015 because I was getting too busy to pay any attention to it. It wasn't my daily driver anymore and I knew that if I kept it, it would just collect dust and rot. I refused to be like every other person that just got "too busy" so I found a great owner for my 240Z, sold it at a good price, and never looked back. The car is in great hands and I'm really happy about that. I've kicked around the idea of buying another Datsun and doing something cooler than ever, now that I have more money in my pocket but I'm just not sure what I want yet. Maybe I'll go buy my 620 back and piece it back together as it was when i sold it. Hell, I still have some of its parts. IDK. I come back here every once in a while and I'm happy to see all of you that are still here. I wish I had more time to hang out with you OG's. I miss the good 'ol forum days.3 points

This thread is going to be my piss-poor attempt to try to be more active on Ratsun again. 90% chance it won't work but I'm gonna give it 10% effort! I impulse bought an Xterra mid-way through 2020, back when the world was ending and Covid was killing everyone in New York and California. My family always told me daily driving old Datsun's and my 350Z wasn't very adult, so I thought I'd prove to them that I could make a semi-good decision. Jokes on them. _DSC2985.jpg by Matt Yates, on Flickr _DSC2994.jpg by Matt Yates, on Flickr _DSC2995.jpg by Matt Yates, on Flickr _DSC3264.jpg by Matt Yates, on Flickr2 points

Its crazy that the guy went full Jeff Dahmer. He was this big talking point in 2017. Every dull minute Hillary Clinton would drop his name. No the media wont cover this at all.2 points

Stock didn't last long. It was on the dyno within the first week, tuned on 93 making a fair bit more power. Untitled by Matt Yates, on Flickr After that, we played the waiting game for parts. Ended up with a mild lift, and a nice set of mud terrains that suited its "party in the dirt" attitude. Hey Group!!! By introductions, I'm Greg, brand new member in Washington State... After 10 hours of travel time I've got my first 720 extra cab 4X4. Running but not road worthy, bone stock, 167k on the odometer, but much of that towing miles, as the POs towed it with their motorhome. My questions for the group are many, but the first is, what is the best carb upgrade? I've heard Holley and Weber are the front runners...I am dying to yank all the emissions stuff off this asap....besides that, any information you can throw at me about this truck would be awesome!1 point
-
because its a 2.6 liter 6 cylinder my 32/36 on the 610 just barely cut the mustard on the l20b so a slightly bigger carb for the added displacement and ported intake made sense1 point

anti-fossil fuel crowd = lockstep commies. they understand why Biden is doing what he has to. the same folks who've screeched the prez doesn't control gas prices for a year and a half will now praise him for lowering gas prices. if dems maintain a senate/congressional majority they'll spin around and tell you without missing a beat that this means the average voter supports the elimination of fossil fuels which will be Bidum's cue to strangle the supply once again. dems are creatures of habit. here's a free guide book to their standard plays. You Can Trust The Communists (to be Communists) The statement is frequently heard: “You cannot trust the Communists!” This is incorrect; you can trust the Communists. They are extremely trustworthy. You can trust a cancer cell to obey the laws of its lawless growth. You can trust an armed bank robber to take the money and try to escape. Similarly, you can trust the Communists to act in accordance with the laws of their being. Wherever you find a Communist, you find an advocate of peace. “Peace” is one of the golden words of their vocabulary. They have “peace” movements of every kind; they have peace campaigns, peace prizes, peace conferences, peace processions. Every Communist is a devotee of peace. Most people, watching the military preparations of the Communists, noting the enormous percentage of their budget devoted to military objectives, observing their ruthless, brutal repression of any attempt by their captive nations to secure freedom, classify the Communists as blatant hypocrites. This is far from the truth. The Communists are not hypocrites. They are sincerely and genuinely dedicated to peace. If you gave a mature Communist a lie detector test and asked him if he desired peace with all his heart, he would pass with flying colors. They live for peace; they long for peace; they would willingly die for peace. What is this peace which they desire? During the war against Japan, most Americans undoubtedly wanted peace. Peace was the thought that comforted mothers whose sons were in danger on distant battlefields; peace was the word which sustained wives, lonely and anxious without their husbands; peace was the goal that motivated servicemen who knew the boredom, the loneliness, and the danger of war. Had they been asked to define peace, they would doubtless have described it as the termination of hostilities in the defeat of the enemy by the allies. Not under any circumstances would victory by Japan have been termed peace. To the American people, peace meant only one thing— American victory. The Communists believe they are at war. They desire “peace” with all their hearts. But to them, peace is that golden consummation when the progressive force of Communism totally overwhelms American imperialism and climaxes in Communist world conquest. By definition , “peace” is Communist world conquest. Since this is true, any action that advances Communist conquest is a “peaceful” action. When Khrushchev ordered Russian tanks into Budapest to fire into the apartment buildings, reducing them to rubble, entombing man, woman and child, in his heart he had a song of peace. The Communists use the word “peace” in their own sense with total sincerity. We interpret it in our sense. We are the victims, not of their hypocrisy, but of our own ignorance. The Communists are not hypocrites. They suffer from paranoid delusions of an intense sincerity. They are so enmeshed in the delusions of Marxism-Leninism that they are beyond the scope of rational argument and conviction. http://hourofthetime.com/1-LF/Dec%2014/You_Can_Trust_the_Communists_to_be_Communists.pdf1 point

Me too. I really dislike polished aluminum under the hood. Most importantly, all the stuff should follow a them or match. All parts should have the same gloss percentage.1 point

We spent a few hours today further preparing the car. Re-installation of the rear firewall, defrost fan and vents, some "de-bonking" bodywork, and fluids exchanged, all while Jeff finalized and finished the electric power steering installation! What have you created Dr. Frankenstein?! We are both excited to experience the difference next week. Nice job Jeff. P.S. If any of you plan to see us race, the track has an on-line form to fill out prior to arrival. https://waiver.fr/p-wVRPC1 point

Where does time go? We are only 1 week away from our first race of the season! Time to hook up the siphon to the wallet. Racing yields opportunities to invert one's pockets around every corner. : ) Though time is short, we MUST get on top of our fueling issue. After discussing some options, we drained the tank, blew out the fumes, and cut an access hole to the pick up. The end of the pipe was shortened (above) in order to accept a filter Jeff purchased last year. In the process of cleaning out the debris left by the abrasive cutting wheel, I found this traitor hiding inside! It appears to be a piece of rubber hose - either from vent or filler neck. The perfect fit clogging the fuel pick up. Good riddance to you and all that came before you! But now with filter fitted, we will not be so susceptible to accidental sabotage. The wire is temporary, shaped to pull the filter away from the the sheet metal during welding. Like it never happened! Vent delete as well. The small one on the opposite end has shown itself to be sufficient, and without the penchant to spilling fuel during sustained lateral g's. After leak checks complete and a quick layer of protective paint - back into the car it went and hopefully it will be the last time we deal with these issues.1 point

Everyone always gets new rotors, but I say clean those up and run them if they're to spec. They might be oem or brembo...not Chinese trash 🤷♂️1 point

Annnnnd talked myself into it lol. Belltech 2" drop spindles are on the way 😂. Been calling around a bit this week to try and source some parts. Bro took some time today to help me at the junkyard and out of the 3 there we were lucky enough to find one that was worth pulllin' parts off of. Snagged everything from the hubs forward so the dust shields / hubs / bearings (which looked good but I'll replace anywho) / rotors / brakes. Just like the bearings I'll get new rotors as well as likely upgrade to some Willwoods. The rest will be refurbished. As soon as the Spindles get here it's everything needed to start chopping and get into the mock-up on the suspension.1 point

Look in your radiator. Look rusty or the cooling tubes have stuff "growing" around the tubes pull it and let it soak with clr. A clean radiater is an upgrade1 point

Why? If running hot or overheating there are things other than the radiator that could be the problem. Otherwise don't fix what isn't broken.1 point

Sorry hobo. My bro is just super defensive cuz He just got back into datsuns and it just isnt like it was 25 years ago like he remembers and hes concerned that if Theres enough negative feedback (people arent into it) ill get discouraged. But let me continue to reassure everyone here we are going to keep this going until noone wants to do it anymore! 2022 is gonna be a great get together! Also a couple of recent changes, with covid on the backend most of the museums and miniature railroad are anticipated to be opened up and operating so those who came last year and those who are new will get to explore so much more and have a richer experience this year! Also the scaled railroad museum should be HUGE and its got whole cities tied together throughout the massive building and that should be really enjoyable to check out as well! again sorry hobo! You HAVE been there all along and I appreciate that!1 point
