  12. It will run with the advance stuck. Maybe stuck all along. Timing light shows no advance when revved up.

  13. I have the 3.27:1 Lincoln, and Have a Mustang GT rear to pull the LSD from. I would pull from a Lincoln again if I get another build. They all seem to have lived a much easier life and come with adequate items (Bags and compressor)

  14. FYI, just looked it up and the LWB Lincoln was available with the 3.55 locking diff from the Interceptor. It would definitely be harder to find one of those, but they are out there. Lincolns came with either a 3.27:1 or 3.55:1, either would be good ratios for decent speediness. Crown Vics are either 2.73:1 (most common ratio), or 3.27:1 (LSD or open diff), and a 3.55:1 LSD (police package). Not trying to sell anybody on either, but since I know I'd be upgrading everything that makes the cop suspension better (springs/shocks/bushings), then a Lincoln seems like a more prudent buy?

  15. Lincolns are bagged in the rear, but there are several inexpensive conversion kits to use Crown Vic springs instead. It's usually about $200 to convert with all new parts. This, but I believe you can also swap in the guts from a LSD Explorer diff (better gear ratios). No kidding. Like half the price. I've seen dozens of running Lincolns for $1000 or less. Even the rough CVs here are $1500-2000 and up. I also have to think the Lincoln might have had an easier life compared to an interceptor. 😄

  23. You're close. Dav posts only in Co-Vid and the high post count caused a wobble that was not recoverable from and Ratsun spun out into the ditch. Unfortunately a snow plough came by right after and pretty much buried it. Search and rescue passed by just feet away several times on Sunday but it was the rain over night that washed it away and Monday morning when it got light there she was, just stuck and cold. All's well that ends well.

  25. I was trying not to be an asshole over on the Realm. I asked those higher up the food chain on Sunday and as of 8 this morning no reply. However there was a reply at 11 and when I checked it had been on since about 10? I believe Thomas was tasked with looking into it. Thank-yo Thomas!

  28. Could be the weight springs inside are loose or detached somehow. Better have a look inside the distributor. My soap box - the distributor is one of the most overlooked parts of an engine, and if not working properly, can cause problems ranging from lack of performance to erratic timing to broken piston rings. Distributors are so easy to manipulate to get them to do as you want. The timing curve of a stock Datsun L series distributor is pretty good, but can easily be made better. This is known as re-curving the distributor. You may find a how-to somewhere on the web, but for a first time, I would pay to have someone else do it. For $100-$150 you will get back a rebuilt unit with a proper advance curve. But yeah, back to your problem. Your weights are either stuck or already advanced, so take a peek in there before proceeding to the next potential issue.

  29. Good thing I still had the other pedal assembly in storage, you mght not think there's much of a difference but there is enough. 620 pedal is the smaller one The bend below the pivot was problem #1, the 620 floor has a bump in that the other pedal wouldn't clear, and problem #2 is the cable attachment is higher & different style - not much but like putting the left glove on the right hand. Anyway got that problem resolved now. Anyone know a source for replacement pedal rubber? Think with all this effort that scrappy old pad just gotta be replaced... Have completely refurbished the park brake assembly and got that installed, works nice & smooth now. A few more bits to deal with in the behind-the-dash area before I move on to more visual stuff. F'n weird weather, a few days ago I was dealing with extreme cold (-40F) and today it's above freezing. Break out the flip-flops n sunscreen!

  30. you sure you have TDC right? when you installed the dist? was this running before the rebuild so why would the dist go bad? Vacuum adv, of set right the dist should be able to go from zero to +25 deg BTDC at idle

  31. Another way to look at it - even if you sunk $10K into your Datsun, it's still cheaper than a new truck and no new truck will EVER be as cool...

  34. You may have to take the points out and remove the breaker plate they mount to to get at the counter weights. Bet they are rusted. Look something like this...

  35. What genre are you looking for. I did a pan off 68 beetle restoration. Parts are available, just very in quality. Spirited driving? The bug kind of scares me driving the speed limit on curvey roads. No power steering and 4 wheel drum brakes takes some planning and concentration. Looked at your profile and being out west at least you don't have rust issues. Owning a 4x4 720 for the last 33 years has me partial to them but I wouldn't want a second one. Old subarus should be plentiful in your neck of the woods. I always wanted an old wagon or Brat. My wife has a 98 sub wagon an although the car wasn't meant for drivers with testicles it kind of fun on dirt roads.
