  5. Can anyone here recommend a good solvent to get Cherrios & bananas off a computer screen !! I would have went ahead and Photoshopped the $1,600 to(minus) -3.5 Trill !! I know, 'Double Negatives', but by the time it all shakes out it'll most likely be double 3.5 Trill !!

  6. I'm thinking most owners don't know when to use a sealer and once on you'll never get it off, or getting it back off, it will be a total bitch to scrape it clean again. I've been on the wrong end of oil pumps, thermostat covers, carb spacers and timing chain covers and oil pans almost permanently welded on with a sealer by a well meaning owner. Sealing is what the gasket does.

  7. Went to another car show this past weekend - ended up being a turnout of 3-400 cars. I barely took any pics unfortunately, but it was a good time. The Z got a ton of attention too which was awesome, people loved to talk about it and for me to explain the work that went into it. They had a videographer at the show too who grabbed a fair bit of footage and pics of my car which was super cool, if/when that vid comes out I'll post it up here. On the way home I noticed that the car had developed a very slight misfire (only noticeable at idle at red lights, one cylinder misses every few seconds if that) - this was right near the end of the drive after about 160km of highway driving, so I'm wondering if it was just fuel boiling issues or similar as I don't yet have a heatshield below the carbs. Pulled the plugs today to check, and am pretty happy. Was hard to get a good in-focus pic, but all are tan, with no signs of oil blow-by, flooding, running super lean, etc. I've put 700km on the car since the rebuild at this point, so seems like a decent indicator that all is well. Considering I rebuilt everything myself with basic tools and the help of youtube/forums, and the bottom-end is totally unknown, I am pleased.

  9. I just checked and the 620 alternators, regulated or non regulated L16/L18 and L20B, are 35 amp. There is an optional 38 amp for air con. equipped. So no worries. There are several post on here about an alternator up grade to 50/60 amp from '78 and up cars and the 720 truck but they are a poor fit. Can be done with some work.

  11. I am just having them make a new one. New parts and they can have it done by Friday. (Hopefully). They were going to rebuild the old one but the drive shaft was too short for their calipers. With the U-joints it is only about 8” long.

  12. This is a short primary drive shaft used with the long 31.5" transmissions. Look at the diameter of the tube and the U joints and the flange to the transfer case. The early ones had smaller diameter tubes and flanges. If for a later 720 you'll just want a longer one for use with the shorty transmission. If for the earlier one probably '80-'82, then longer that the one pictured above and smaller U joints, tube diameter and flange. I have put this larger style on by also replacing the companion flange on the transfer case.

  13. Just to be honest, I didn't create this meme; came from one of my daily news/opinion reads. I just wish I was that sarcastically brilliant. The more I look at that image the more that I see. How many felt like the look on the the lady on the left's face the day after the, so called, election last November ?? She's thinking 'Bullshit, are you dickheads really gonna give him this one' ?? !!

  14. The '78 and 79 620 used internal regulators and fit the L series in the 620. Slight increase in output but not much. To convert the older external regulator wiring harness you will need to cut the wires off the old regulator leaving them long and save the plug. Join the these two pair of wires... Yellow & White White/Black stripe & White/Red stripe Plug this back into the harness. Unfortunately, this will permanently wire the choke heater relay ON so find and disconnect the choke heater relay. There are two wires attached to the back of the carburetor. The Blue choke heater wire and the Red idle cut solenoid. They may have a black sheath over them but they are Red and Blue. The choke (BLUE) needs another power supply, so jumper the Blue choke heater wire to the Red idle cut solenoid wire and you are done. Choke power turns on and off with the ignition.

  15. Are you replacing the shorty with the longer 31.5" transmission from an '82???? If yes then you need the later '83 and up long drive shaft as the flange on the transfer case was also made larger after (I think) about '83. If you actually have an '82 4x4 and need a long drive shaft for it, then only the '80-'82 will work because the transfer case flange is physically smaller.

  16. They think they can build one. But it’s looking at $350 for that little thing. Sheesh!!!

  17. I would have to say the 1200 is probably the lightest Datsun ever made. he earlier cars had a body-on-frame construction which was ditched in favor of the lighter unibody construction, and the 1200 was one of the first Datsuns using that technology. Plus, all the parts in a 1200 are diminutive compared to the 510 and others. The rear axle is tiny, so is the transmission, and the engine too. I once pulled an A14 out of a car at a junkyard by standing on the strut towers and a tie down draped over my shoulders connected to the engine. They are that light.
