  3. Has anyone else figured this out? I though others including myself have been having issues viewing notifications when on the mobile site... Well I accidentally figured out if you tap just below the rats and wrench logo, behind the front wheel of the car, the sub menu for notifications and mail pops up... If there is a thread about this feel free to move my comment but I couldn't find where I saw it.....

  4. The big milestone today, paint and clearcoat done! So nice to say that, God I find painting so stressful, just so easy to screw up and wreck all your work. 3 coats of colour and 3 coats of clear, lots of little dust particles but they should all come out when I start sanding the clear with 1200 grit. It's the same colour is was when I bought the car only now the rust, dents and orange peel are gone😉

  6. There's battery on one side of the red charge light. The other side goes to ground through the diodes in the alternator when not charging. When charging there is 14.5 now on the diode and as it also connected to the battery 14.5 or so on both sides of the red light. With equal potential on both sides there is almost now current flow and the bulb stays dark. Even a couple of volts difference won't light it enough to see. If the light is out it means there is equal voltage on both sides, could be any amount.

  7. No, you should always see high 13's/low14's. The alternator still needs to put out a voltage high enough to run all of the electronics in the car. Think of the battery as a large capacitor that just sits there and waits to be needed. It starts the car because you can pull 100's of amps from it. Once the alternator spools up, the battery gets refreshed, and then goes back into waiting. In most cases, it'll also get you home if the alternator shits the bed. Car batteries are only used for starting, and for when the car demands more current than the alternator can handle.

  8. When I first started driving it I had the hubs stuck engaged and didn’t know it . I couldn’t believe what a crappy turn radius truck I had . It’s like a Mack truck compared to driving it in 2wd drive . I wanted this truck because it was small enough to drive in my back yard , but at first I was disappointed with the turn radius . Happy now though !

  9. Mainer Your truck is in great shape and you take care of it. d.p, Crashed, and you do a great job of representing Datsuns on the other side of the country. Good job guys.

  10. Has nothing to do with my truck. Yours is clean and nice. Just pointing out some obvious things that are free to fix. Also that’s why I hate the factory fuel pump location electric for me and run fuel line behind with -6 hoses. Is still looks real good. And I don’t have a truck I have. Frame. Lol

  11. These trucks don't have a steering rack. Are you referring to the steering box? It turns the pitman arm.

  12. I don’t think that matters. Everything is just connected on the starter post. When the engine is running, the post is only used to connect the alt to the battery. Otherwise it just sits there and does nothing. When you turn the key to “start” the little black wire grounds the solenoid which acts as a relay for the starter motor. It grounds out the negative side of the motor and allows it to crank. When the circuit is normally open, power is always on the post, but since there is no ground, the motor circuit isn’t completed.

  14. Yeah, I’m not buying anymore of those. They’re stupid expensive. The problem is that the outlet from the pump is a R/A 1/4” barb with an 1/8” BSPT thread...which of course is impossible to find in a 5/16” barb. That leaves me with one 1/4” hose, and 5/16” between the carbs. I only bought clamps for 5/16 hose, so I had to use an old one off of my roadster. This isn’t tanker’s truck. Not everything has to be perfect.

  16. Driving truck the other day and lost running lights. Headlight Hi/Lo works, and turn signals also. Things I've swapped (known good parts out of another running truck) - wiper switch - headlight relay (both click when turned to running lights) - all fuses are good - dimmer switch - ignition switch (electrical) Also lost power to the injection pump controller. From what I found the red wire that connects to the fusible links is a constant hot wire that feeds the headlight/running lights. What am I missing?

  18. Today's episode "Door Hinge Redux" With the B pillar essentially finished, it was time to move on to the C pillar and door hinge. Step one, remove the inner C pillar panel. Step two, mess up a hinge. Heres the two hinges again, one pre and one post modification. 90% of the way to finished with mods. Only took a couple of hours this time as I had a better idea of what I was doing. And also fairly close to the correct vertical so I avoid the sagging issues that have plagued me on these. For these cuts,

  20. Yeah, the $20 store shelf units are all crap. The browning stuff we used to sell when I worked for Oreilly wasn't any better than the regular stuff. I haven't seen the Carhartt ones but unless its made of their fabric they use for coats and coveralls, probably crap too. To get a decent seat cover quality, expect to spend at least $50. I think the hardest wearing but not stupidly expensive are saddle blanket type covers in my opinion. You can feel the heft of the fabric compared to the cheaper stuff, but to get nice quality covers in a different fabric can get expensive.

  21. Has anybody had good luck w/a seat cover for a bench seat for a 720? I have one from Autozone or Walmart on it now...and it is only a year or two old and fits like crap, and is ready to fall off, and it has not aged well. I would not say that it was a good investment. I see that Carhart and Browning make some...or probably somebody uses their logo on their product. Has anybody used those?

  22. Also, I just want to note that I love the ridiculous paint on this thing. So, I picked up the hubs for cheap, and then I found a 1995 chevy 1500 rear axle for dirt cheap. It was complete minus brake drums, $40. Perfect. All I would need to install it was to move the spring perches. When I picked up the motor, the guy offered me the whole set of rims/tires, two of which were already mounted on the axle. I said sure and loaded it up. For $40 I got the axle and a set of 90's 15 inch rims with 36x14.50s, very tired, mounted on them. I've never

  23. Easy, when the 2bbl kicks in, you will get get a pronounced push, back in to the seat. And, your tires will chirp. Seriously now, you will get about 75% of your power from just the 1st bbl. Get it up to at least 3,000 rpm, put your foot on the accelerator, up to the point where you feel the peddle get stiffer. You can feel for it w/o the motor running. That is the point where you are starting to push on the secondary's spring. Then floor it, does it run a lot stronger? Or is it just a little stronger. I will run a little stronger on 1 bbl and a lot stronger if the secondary

  24. Well put. Try raising young kids with these new rules. Every single day, something comes up that I have to tiptoe around in explaining a situation to my kids, or dealing with the schools or other parents. I almost got into a fight at my little boy's baseball game a couple years ago when I said to nobody in particular "can someone go and smack my kid, because he sure ain't paying attention!" I was joking, but one parent took it literally and called me out with "you should be a better father and we don't hit our children." First thing, telling someone they are a bad parent is grounds

  29. Usually I disengage before I back down my driveway to disengage the hubs . I have forgotten before to drive in reverse a bit and just take off and I usually figure it out by the sound that the hubs are still engaged . Thanks again for the warnings. I just slip the clutch more in the driveway. My truck had the unusually high 3.88 gear set for a 4wd . Low drive is nice for poking around slow in my yard or up my driveway . Since I don’t off-road , I’d like to keep things working and use them every once in a while . Never owned a truck with a transfer case before , so maybe just like playing wi

  30. I have a Chevy PU in 4X4. What you describe is common for any non-full time 4X4. I also can tell a difference between 2X4 and 4X4 when turning. What Lockleaf said is the most plausible way to describe things. Also, I NEVER use 4X4 on a hard, dry surface, EVER. Doing so repeatedly is asking for future problems with your transfer case and/or axles due to wear/breakage. Don

  34. Webers tend to run fairly well no matter what jets are in them. Playing around with the choke to get it to idle is just wrong. The choke is to force a rich mixture when the engine is cold and doesn't have enough warmth to evaporate the fuel in the fuel/air mixture. Running rich assures that enough will evaporate and mix with the air to make it run well enough to drive. Withing 8 to 10 minutes the engine will be warm enough to do this by itself and the choke should be off. If it's warmed up and will only idle with the choke partly on, this would tell be that the e

  41. Fuck this stupid alternator, took the truck out today and low behold alternator not charging again. The highest the voltmeter got to was 12.9 but hovered around 12.4 the entire time. Only drove it roughly 22 miles but that same story the entire time. Charge light off but simply not doing its thing. It must be a loose belt or wire, otherwise not sure what else it could be. This started the other night when I drove it around and turned the headlights on.

  43. Yes, the dots illustrate the point I was making to refute the assertion that Cali & Tex's sifting seats actually mattered to either party. I think what people in California are trying to escape is having to spend more than half their income for a rat shit tiny place to live; which is a product of supply vs demand and this state's crazy success with that whole free market capitalism thing. When I was a kid my dad worked as a welder, and our house half way up into Mission Hills had a view from down town SD to Point Loma. When I was about 10, Pete Willson (R) issued building permi
