  2. Yeah crazy that’s what it ended up being. Amazing what an engine will do when the carb isn’t dumping fuel into one of the cylinders. But good cause it means I built this fucker right and everything is as it supposed to be Oh boy! This fucking thing rips now in every gear. I have the tach set to 7K and I have bee reviving it up close to that and it hauls. Until now I had no idea what a cam’d and bored L20b was supposed to feel like and it is fucking titties. Runs cooler and so much smoother now as well. Even though it took me nearly a month to figure all this out af

  8. I blame someone's poor time management and communication. Just glad its finally here though. I can run my LS coils now and clean a lot of shit out of the engine bay. And not be running 40 year old engine management lol

  9. Bumper jacks require wheel chocks to be anywhere close to safe, Your Datsun has them, look for them.

  13. Even earlier tachometers for the roadster had a side driven spur gear on an extended distributor shaft. It drove an inductive cup like the speedometer. Instead of wheel or driveshaft rotation it showed distributor rotation which was directly indicative of the engine RPM.

  14. Well, I found a cool company near me called Belmetric that specializes in specialty automotive stuff, so I grabbed these M14x1.5 tapered plugs in stainless. Wound the fuckers in and then repainted the whole manifold. Took an angle grinder to the edges and rounded them over. Hopefully there’s intake manifold clearance now.

  15. Vacuum leak would usually let in more air leaning the mixture. This would affect mostly idle (high vacuum in intake) as the leak would remain constant and less air drawn in as the vacuum in the intake drops when under load and revved up. Unless they explain this I think they have made a mistake. The whole point of the 'rope trick' is to avoid electricity, air pump, hoses, fittings and having to complete the job while you have an air supply. Too much could go wrong. With rope, that valve is going nowhere and a monkey couldn't fuck it up.

  19. You can swap to a dual master, and then just change the residual valve so that it’s setup for drum-drum. And then later on, you can put the original valve back in to go back to disc-drum. I believe a late-70’s 620 master is what you want. Cardone 131839 or equivalent is what I bought.

  20. Really want to get this truck drivable but the brake lines are pretty corroded. If I go through the trouble of replacing the brake lines I would also like to swap out the master cylinder with a dual reservoir. Im fine keeping the drums all around, is there a dual master cylinder that would work without too much headache? or should I just keep the original master cylinder for now? I will probably do discs up front in the future.

  21. Well I think I cracked this case. Can anyone guess what the difference is here??

  22. One thing I did notice is the problem side of the carb has a vacuum port on it. But I was told not to use it so I just capped it off. I am under the impression that it’s not needed with dual mikunis.

  24. I bought it for $400.00 with no title. Contacted the last owner and explained if I sell it and it's used in a crime, she would be contacted by the po po's. We got the title taken care of 2 weeks before she passed away. Before I sold it, I removed the steering wheel, ribbed VC and the bumperettes. Steering wheel and and VC were replaced before selling it for $800. Been looking for that truck since then, no where to be found.

  28. Possible high idle causes.... 1/ Choke not fully off when warmed up causing the fast idle cam to be engaged. OR fast idle cam sticking on. 2/ Throttle cable too tight not letting the carburetor close fully. 3/ Secondary not fully closed. Stuck or debris stuck in throttle plate. Use a flashlight and look. 4/ BCDD not resetting or turning off when returning to idle. 5/ Idle speed screw not adjusted properly The fast idle is the reason the engine diesels on shut off.

  29. Mike I thought you need a longer collar when swapping 5 speed with L20

  32. This thread pops into my mind every time I get blinded by some idiot. Then I have something decent happen like a large truck cutting his lights off in the drivethru behind me to keep me from getting blinded. I want to believe there is hope. If it would not look so fucking stupid and be morally stupid, I would put a light bar on the rear of every vehicle to return the blind for the ones behind me. I do not cut my brights off for folks who do not or have improperly aimed lights.
