  4. I nearly had to cancel, the opportunity arose to pick up a Z for the girlfriend from a guy who has only rare windows of free time in Ukiah, CA. Then he had to cancel due to work obligations, so CanbyLand it is! Heading out tonight, staying in Weed, CA, just north of Mt Shasta CIty (for the nostalgic views) And heading out Friday morning to Salem after breakfast. @the510keeper, @WAGON JON any estimates when you'll be heading up 5 through that area??

  7. First, use punctuation. I know it's Ratsun, but some of us are civilized. Describe "breaking down." Does it die on you going down the road? Won't start? How do you know the coil is bad? There's no coil on the distributor. Do you mean points?

  8. After attending EVERY Canby show - even the first one in 2005 that no one counts - I will be forced to miss this year's replacement show at Powerland. I wish you all safe travels and a great show. I'm sorry I won't be there to catch up with everyone and take pictures. --carter

  10. I got back home about an hour ago, and went out and double checked what I saw this morning. When I took the cables off the rear end I never marked them for right or left side (making a trailer out of the bed and back half of the frame plus using cab and under hood parts for other things). Both cable sheath's were about 1/4 inch from being the same length. And the cables were also within 1/4 inch of being the same. However, the longer sheath had the shorter cable, and vice-versa. Both cables and sheaths were almost identical in looks. The only difference I could detect was in the e

  12. As one who understands the difficulty of carb tuning, it's great you two have struck up a working relationship. Both of you guys seem to be very diligent, and working together takes a huge load off the individual. Congrats guys!

  15. Is there any sort of branding on the black one that is on the truck pulling the trailer? I think I may have just found the same exact one on the classifieds for $40

  16. That's the coil as Matt said but it's not the stock coil so who knows how well it's made or how effective it is? The Pennzoil thing means someone has deleted the PCV valve and stuck an oil breather on the block vent. The engine venting into the engine compartment is caused by this set up. If I were you I get that replaced to stock condition. Less smell and your oil and engine will last longer.

  17. we call it a condenser ,not a coil. is it grounded good screws tight? is this dual points? the bigger condenser is the main set of points. replace it and make sure you have stock point coil and a ballast resisitor(white ceramic block) Like I said ck if the coil gets HOT when this is happening This is a simple fix. Was truck ever running good for period of time? Did this do this recently or ever since you had the vehicle, was something changed?

  18. Hello! Old conversation but did you find the solution for this problem? I have same issues In my car?

  19. Post a picture of your distributor, it may have been swapped for a EI unit. This won't work so well with a points coil.

  20. Well according to the manual if you ground the resistor while the fan switch is in the position that does NOT work - and that causes the fan to work - then it’s the resistor . My resistor was really rusty and I tried to clean it , but I guess that didn’t help . So anyone have a spare resistor ?

  21. I don't know what form a gasket is, but if I use anything at all on the stock type gasket, I only use high tack on one side because I want it to stick to the valve cover or oil pan, I don't want it to stick to the block. Normally the first time I put gaskets on dry, but the second time I use a gasket if it came off clean like on the intake/exhaust I put a little something around the coolant holes, used gaskets sometimes need a little extra help. I hope it works out for you and doesn't leak anymore, it sucks when one works so hard to do something and it doesn't work out, it happens al

  23. I'll be going to both sort of. Probably swing by the kicking it oldschool Saturday morning since it is happening very close to my house (seriously like 10 mins from my place). Then head down to Powerland. Not sure if I'm going to be camping at either place though. Probably just try to hangout with as many people as possible.

  31. The second engine start. There is some noise in steering booster. Checking the tank ... there is a froth. So we have a leak somewhere. Checking everything. The leak was found in one of the hosepipes. We will have to make another one. But we still need to warm up engine and check the fan cooler, oil leakage, transmission and many more. So we put away the steering booster belt and start engine for the third time.

  39. Well there is no problem with a 14 air/ fuel... that's not to lean..... I only mention the timing because I bumped mine up to 15 and had wierd issues.... I'm back to 12..... I did source better quality parts , wires coil, etc.... so It wasn't a waste of money but wasn't my issue.... I understand what your saying and actually I just looked this up... I'm honestly surprised...it said 18 to 20 btdc for a 2.4 kade..... .. I kind of jumped on board about the timing thinking about my L motor....

  40. Where the timing is currently it runs the best.. i can drive it and its fine.. like i said though its from idle to the transition where the problem is.. Ive been able to make it run with the timing at 15 all the way to 30 .. and every single time i think its right it has that little hiccup at partial throttle so its go to be a different jet.. especially if im pig rich right now and its still leaning out on the gauge at transition .. its not spiking up to 19 but its going up to 14 from 9 or below Like i said i was able to hide that problem with a fatter idle jet so i know fuel is the

  42. Hi Norman, Thanks for the tips, I'll look into that whenever I get the truck back out. It's currently hibernating due to scary road salt. It's been running OK, but still running best/smoothest with the choke pulled just a bit, so it needs a bit of something. I think some 520s got Hitachi carbs and some got Nikkis. See the 520 parts manual here that has diagrams for both: http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun520/Datsun520521Index/Engine1300J13/Carburetor/tabid/1370/Default.aspx

  43. Good progress. Normal for a J13 is smooth operation no matter the load or no matter how much throttle you give it.
