There is a small harness that travels past the starter and down the transmission. It has the reverse lights on it and maybe a few switches for emissions. The starter solenoid and the oil pressure sender are on it also.
Take the top off the air filter and look. Choke should close when engine is cold and you step on the gas pedal. Withing 5-10 min of running it should open by itself. The fast idle cam may be stuck. Spray the throttle area on the back of the carb with WD-40 and work all the linkages back and forth. Hold the throttle half open when doing this to release the interlock.
I used a pittman arm puller from Autozone along with my air impact wrench. I got it hand tight onto the arm first and then I blasted it with my air impact. Came right off. Probably not the safest way to do it, but...... Drilling those damn holes were the hardest part for me. That is some tough metal! Make sure you get a solid one that fits right. The ones that pivot slip off for this job.
