I would like to see a thread here for SIGHTINGS.... you know when you see a car or truck out and about and are curious who it was.

Reason being I saw two Dimes pulled over on I5 S.B. this afternoon and wondered who it was.

Rather than use space on another thread, I thought a seperate one just for that porpose would be handy!?

Anybody? I would do a poll but don't know how to do it.

	Hi All,

Long time lurker, first time posting. I’ve learned a lot from all of you over the years.

Looking for some guidance on an L16. I know the engine was rebuilt and the head was done at least once many years ago and it probably only has a few thousand miles on it since the rebuild (stock, never raced or anything). The pistons are stamped +.50 so it was bored at some point.

The engine ran great but started smoking a little, then more and more. Wouldn’t smoke on start up, only after warming up. Once warm, smoked at idle and on acceleration. Plugs were oily but not completely fouled.

Did a bunch of diagnostics on it like compression test, leak down, block test, etc. and everything appeared to be within spec. Checked PCV system and found no issues, replaced valve stem seals. Thought oil rings might have been stuck so I did multiple piston soaks and Italian tune ups over a period of a couple of weeks. Still smoked. I got a borescope and found literal puddles of oil on top of each piston.

Pulled the engine and tore it down and everything was super clean inside, and all the rings were free, etc.

Then I noticed some unusual cylinder wear. All 4 cylinders have the exact same wear pattern. Scoring on the top inch or so of the cylinders but only on two sides of each bore (the sides parallel with the crank). The “front and back” sides of the bores don’t have the scoring. I can feel the scoring with my fingernail.

Is anyone familiar with this wear pattern and what causes it? I think this scoring must be how the oil was getting into the combustion chambers unless you have other ideas or experiences.

	Thanks,

	Othart

Now I do understand that alot of other forums have one of these, but as far as I am concerned, it is needed! It is good to expand our minds to new idea's, and the easiest way to do that is with Music! I always find myself listening to the same tunes and that can get a bit boring.

So here it goes. Make sure to give:

-Artist!

-Name of the Jam!

-and Genre!

Feel free to post a link aswell! that would be wonderful!

AND don't forget, everyone has their own Jams so be respectful! Just as you might like 620's where as someone else prefers Dimes, our tunes express who we are, so no bein a Douche about it!

so here i will start!

-Bizarre Inc.

-Playing with Knives

-Genre: House

Just picked up a 1986 720 4x4 long bed King Cab that’s in pretty decent original shape.

This isn’t my first. I had an ’81 2-wheel single cab shortie with an SD22 (that in hindsight I probably should have kept, but I can’t keep ‘em all).

I bought this truck to make the 90 mile run to my property that I am currently working on, and plan to have some fun with it.

I plan on keeping it pretty stock, though I may install a Weber 32/36 on it for MPG.

I guess this forum format is about as old as my truck, thus I need to go read how to post pics here.

Hello, now that i was looking into different size of wheels I came to see that the size of tire is a big part of the combo, however some mount tires that are not supposed to or are not in the chart so here I am confused again.
For example, what size tires would you mount on a 15x8 wheels and what size tires on a 15x10. This truck that i like the look has 15x10 wheels and 195-50-15 tires. I would of thought them wheels need something like 220 and up tire size.
So please school me on tire sizes with your knowledge

I have been taking my 521 out to shows around town lately and have ran into some longtime Datsun/Ratsun guys at the shows but wanted to see how many of us are active and around the Socal area? I see alot of activity in the PNW but it would be cool to see some other old Dattos.

I am around the high desert area if anyone ever wants to roll to a meet, I do not have social media but am active with all the cars.

(1984 720 mini truck camper / 85 Nissan Lakeview)

Having been a total RV novice when I inherited this vintage diamond in the rough, I had no idea what I was in for with this particular model. But I am here to tell you how much I have learned since then & even have an opportunity to add to that knowledge, I'm hoping!

Apparently the official conversion of Datsun into Nissan occurred in 84/85. As the plaques mounted on door panels & registration for my motorhome read

84 Datsun 720 --with matching Vin which clears in any system and on the title as

85 Nissan Lakeview MH

All the ornamentation/accessories/plaques etc are Nissan but everything produced on the original chassis prior to being sent to

Keystone ,where the coach was manufactured & bolted onto the frame--is Datsun right down to the striping/ color scheme , interior of cab, even the headlights all characterize a classic Datsun look.

I wonder if the overall lack of information regarding Datsun/Nissan participation in the MH market is more an indication of -the level to which production was limited (which seems excessive I've heard some say only 6 Sunraders were built on Nissan chassis with 6 cylinder) Or if perhaps the company chose to remove itself and possibly even the association as they progressed to a more sporty approach quickly after debuting the Z engine.

This RV has a

4cyl 5spd Z24

dual spark

carb

literally IDENTICAL to a Toyota (Escaper, huntsman, Granville are the matching models I've encountered)

but with an equally reliable but more powerful engine-

5spd manual while Toyota offered only 4spd until much later

floating rear diff w 6 lug design & Toyota prior to 87 were recalled for issues involving dually safety.....

But apparently all these advantages were overlooked at the time & will probably continue to be as I've spent nearly a year doing diligent research & have found 1 photo of the same make/model.

1.......which sold on NY several years ago & had fully renovated/upgraded interior (making it indistinguishable from anything else seen around) I have always enjoyed a owning anything unique & a little exclusive to me but in this case it seems tragic to take something so original & characterized by the story it can tell..Personally, I wouldn't wall paper over a Picasso even if it wasn't all that pretty to look at ...we can't all appreciate a classic, I digress.

I am hoping someone here can offer some additional insight/information.... I think I have about exhausted all the expertise I have acquired so far & am ready for more!

References, photos (how can I post a photo here?), omg manuals if I dare to dream! Any knowledge is appreciated!!!!!

Rat-on sun!

THANKS

G'day, it was a Saturday morning and I was admiring my girl in the garage. As I'm leaning over her, something catches my eye that I probably should have of noticed earlier, I guess the lighting in the moment was just right....

I'd like to direct your attention to the attached photo of the VIN plate on my Datsun Stanza SSS 1800. I quite enjoy the stories of cars and their owners, the journey of the car one could say. From my paperwork, this Stanza has come over from South Africa to Australia around 2015. I've always seen Stanzas, Violets, 160j's etc etc, labelled with the model; PA10. RA10 is something I have not seen or heard of prior to seeing it printed on my car.

Searching online regarding the Datsun Stanza is hit and miss at the best of times. Trying to find info regarding a sub model of an already elusive model has lead me to throwing posts any place I come across. And here I am at Ratsun...

	From what I've gathered so far, note this is mostly from Facebook, but I put it in for discussion;

*RSA picked up afew extra variants of the Stanza that were unique. Stock L16 but some sss had L18 and L20. 5 speed aswell on the sss but then also some had a LSD.

*Being a rally car, they also had to have a production car of the same spec, thus the RSA variations.

Has anyone heard similar to this?

The LSD, my understanding was they came out in the Bluebird..?

I once sold a Stanza some time ago to a guy and after saying it was a SSS he asked if it was the L18. I said no, I've only heard of the L16. I've not given it much thought until going down this rabbit hole.. How common are, or should I sadly say, were, these variants?

I have found one line out of a manual, for the A10 I recall, that cited the 'PA10' is a 1600 base model, and the RA10 is the 1800. I am unable to find any car with RA10 as one does when searching PA10.

Is there a RA10 manual out there that would list this table's equivalent?

It is a 72 with ka. The car died and would crank, fire and die immediately. I eventually removed the ignition switch and tried it with a screw driver and it started. But, I had to turn the switch back to on because the spring wasnt kicking it back which meant the starter kept running. I drove it home and have tried five different switches with the same result of dying right after firing. I ordered a new ignition with the same result. I have discovered that the ignition switch that kinda works will spin 360 degrees internally. Any ideas? Thanks, Tyson.
