Description

Want frame rear end cut around 10" ahead of the rear shackle.  This would include the tubular cross member.

A front wreck doner?

Don't know if a long bed would have the same dimensions in that area - I'm guessing the LB would simply extend the end of the frame, the shackle and arch over rear axle are probably the same - I could cut off the the extra frame at end OR the shipper could do so to facilitate shipping.

Shipping can be without packaging - just put label on frame.

NOTE:  haven't decided yet on repair:  1) cut old frame off, well new frame on, 2) use new frame for pieces to weld up old frame or 3) just fab my own pieces.  This is not resto, it is just to pass inspection.

Recommended Questions

They would allow the frame to be welded together out of scraps????????? by the owner? Where I am you can't even weld a trailer hitch onto the frame let alone weld on it. Better check the regs.

There are four pair of box bolt attachment points to the frame.

FRONT

1st........2nd..................3rd.......4th

The distance between 1st and 2nd and 3rd and 4th vary between the long and short wheelbase trucks, the distances between 2nd and 3rd are the same.

A long wheelbase frame has 13.44" between the 3rd and the 4th pair of bed mounting holes. A short wheelbase frame is only 11.61" a difference of 1.83". Just drill new holes and trim the back end of the frame.

We can weld up frames here on old cars - garages that do inspections don't care.

However shop had a BMW with problems, got BMW rep to come in, saw frame was welded and on the spot, junked the VIN number of the vehicle.

I plan to take a needle descaler to the area and blow out all the scale and see just what I'm dealing with.

I've done shit like this:  it ain't pretty but solid  (actually I have some beautiful weld work on my 620 but this is the most involved - it was very out of position to do which contributed to nastiness, won't crawl out to adjust welder.  Oxy-acetylene my fave and best skilled would have made this beautiful, but would have set the car on fire - too much plastic in a 2010 Escape.
