Excellent idea. Keeps the ATC functional. On some earlier models there is a thermostatically controlled air bleed. When the under hood temperatures are extreme the air thins out and it will idle richer. This air bleed opens a small leak to the intake restoring the idle mixture.

Overall the stock air filter is not only quieter but cheaper (I think) and lasts longer between changes.

ATC was used on all USA Datsun from 1972 onwards. Though they might be different diameters they look very similar

Test your air cleaner: 1. reach in and push flap 2. Stick finger over motor port. Then release flap. It should hold vacuum. Many of them are leaking after 20-30 years. I have removed the vacuum motor from a newer Datsun and fitted it to a totally different older model
